Col. Thomas Hart was perhaps one of the very best financiers of his day; h
is schemes were extensive, benevolent, and successful, he raised four or f
ive young men in his family; some if not all
orphans, who every one to positions of affluence and honor, of whom Jes
se Benton was one. He assisted industrious
tradesmen in their various callings and thus contributed largely to the we
lfare of many individuals. and to society at large, raised and educat
ed a large family of sons and daughters the latter
marrying some of the greatest men of our Country. One to Governor Shelb
y, another to Hon . Henry Clay and l know not who the other daughter or a
ny of the sons married.

mer, had orchards, and a considerable family. One of his sons spent some t
